2012 Club Championships

At the last Aggregate, I talked about the coming Club Championships, which begin next year. Attached to this e-mail, you will find general information about the events. You will also find details of the age group events which are all held on Saturday, March 24th. Your entry age for all events is January 29th, 2012, which is when our Championships begin with some Open events, that is, they are open to all age groups. The first two events are run as part of the Aggregate competition. You don't have to swim these as Club Championship events and have the option to swim them separately as aggregate events, assuming that 200m is the distance for your grade. However, we encourage you to enter, and in past years, even very young swimmers have entered the 200m events and surprised themselves by easily completing the distance and receiving medals. Entry forms for the 200m Open Breaststroke (Events 91 and 92) and 200m Open Butterfly (Events 93 and 94) are attached to this email. You will not be allowed to enter the Championship events on the night, and must submit entries by the closing dates to be included.

I will send out entry forms for the other open events nearer the time to help avoid information overload.

Here is a short note about medals and trophies:

Medals are awarded to the first three places in all Club Championship events. Also, for the age group events, points are awarded 3, 2, 1 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each event. These points are added up for the four different stroke events, together with the age group individual medley. The highest scores determine the age group champions for the current year. The champions receive age group champion trophies which are theirs to keep and also have their name engraved on the age group champion perpetual trophy, which they are allowed to keep for a year. These are awarded on Presentation Night.

For the open events, the scoring system is the same except that points from all open events are added up. These include the points from the Sprint Championships. This can be done because it doesn’t matter for open events if swimmers change age groups between the Sprints and Main Championships. The winner is declared to be Club Champion and receives a personal and perpetual trophy as for the age groups.

I look forward to seeing as many swimmers compete as possible.

Regards,

Charlie Williams,

Swimming Director
